Each and Every year is a new opportunity to Re-Pair and build new and healthier habits
Winter weather, negative news in the media and lockdowns. Under these circumstances it is hard to eat a balanced diet, keep a positive mindset and maintain a healthy weight. What can you do when you have a sweet tooth, comfort eat, and feel blue – especially if you find it hard to resist temptation, which leads to guilt, weight-gain, lack of motivation and lethargy?
First, remember that a positive time always follows a negative period. Now it is Springtime already, the days are getting longer, and the weather is so much better. Our spirits will lift and so will restrictions and then the sun will shine again. Meantime just limit the amount of time you spend listening to the news and on social media. Most things are outside of your control and at present there is an appetite for sensationalism and fake news that can create panic, negativity, and feelings of doom. Every time you have a negative thought follow it up with a positive thought or think of a funny memory or a joke that made you belly laugh. When you feel blue, remember this is temporary and talk to someone about it so that you can identify the trigger that causes it to prevent it recurring. If this isn’t working, it might be time to ask for professional help.
Obesity is one of the biggest modern-day killers of people on the planet. When you get a sugar craving sip on a glass of water with sugar in it, but don’t swallow it. The taste will dupe your body into thinking it is about to get sugar so that it goes into overdrive in excited anticipation and burns up fat instead!
Stop eating preferably 4 hours before you go to bed, to give your body time to digest your food. Start your light meal and your main meal with a small bowl of soup to prepare the stomach for the food that is to follow, and this will help you digest your food more easily. Best to resist snacking between meals. Instead, drink a glass of water. Do not use a microwave for anything at all. Microwaves destroy the molecular structure of food.
Try to be in bed by 11pm and get up around the same time every morning to establish a good sleep habit, whilst ensuring you get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night.
To reduce financial stress, set up a simple cashflow matrix. This is a table listing all your outgoings down the left-hand column, every month of the year across the top, and a total at the end of each row and the end of each column so that in one glance you can see exactly how much you spend on your bills monthly (tv, broadband, mobile, electricity, gas, insurance, etc.) and how much each of these items cost you, plus your monthly and annual outgoings. Then you can see how much money you need to earn per month, where you can make savings, things you don’t need, etc.
